KEY GUIDELINES:
- AI SHOULD NOT REPLACE INDEPENDENT WORK: Do not rely on AI tools to answer exam questions, or complete tasks that are meant to demonstrate your own understanding or critical thinking. This includes generating essays, summaries, conclusions, or other parts of an assignment. Your work should reflect your own thoughts and knowledge. AI tools can assist you in the learning process, such as providing examples, helping with brainstorming ideas or searching for sources, but they should not do the bulk of the work for you.
- FOLLOW INSTRUCTOR-SPECIFIC GUIDELINES: Individual instructors may have specific rules about using AI tools in their courses. These rules will be outlined in the syllabus. It is your responsibility to read and follow them. Always prioritize your instructor’s guidelines when considering using AI in connection to the coursework.
- ACKNOWLEDGE AI USE IN YOUR WORK: If you use AI tools in any part of your assignments (including the editing of your text), you must clearly state this. Explain what AI tools you used, how you used them, and why. You should also describe how you changed or adjusted the AI-generated content. Remember to cite these tools just like you would any other source to avoid plagiarism. Failing to do so may be treated as academic dishonesty.

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER:
- AI IS NOT ALWAYS ACCURATE: AI tools are not genuinely intelligent and can sometimes provide incorrect or biased information, make generalizations based on stereotypes and prejudices, or give contradictory answers. It is essential to fact-check any content generated by AI.
- OVERRELIANCE ON AI TOOLS: As stated before, AI tools can aid you in areas like brainstorming; however, it is essential to note that relying too heavily on AI tools can limit your personal growth, your own creativity, critical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving skills. And these are precisely the areas in which a college education should provide a boost for your future career and life.
- DATA PRIVACY: Be cautious when inputting sensitive or personal information into AI tools (for example, data related to research subjects, interviews, etc.). Most tools store input data and thus pose a risk to privacy.
