ENGLISH STUDIES – BACHELOR’S DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMME
The Department of English and American Studies offers a single honours study programme of the English language, literature and culture. This programme focuses on the development of linguistic, communicative and intercultural competences in the English language and prepares students for employment in business and private corporate sphere, government administration, in the field of culture, tourism, intercultural mediation and in the media.
The programme also launches in external form in case of a sufficient number of applicants.
Applicants are accepted without entrance exams.
TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
TEACHING OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE – BACHELOR’S DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMME
The Department of English and American Studies offers a teacher education study programme of English language and literature in combination with another subject. This programme focuses on professional education in the field of English language and literature teaching; graduates can find employment as teacher assistants at lower and higher levels of secondary schools and thanks to their professional and methodological profile also as teachers in extracurricular and leisure education facilities.
Applicants are accepted without entrance exams.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION – MASTER’S DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMME
The Department of English and American Studies offers an English Language in Professional Communication single honours study programme. This programme prepares students for a wide range of possible jobs in business and commercial sphere at home and abroad, everywhere where English language is used on a professional level.
The programme also launches in external form in case of a sufficient number of applicants.
Applicants are accepted without entrance exams.
TEACHING OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE – BACHELOR’S DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMME
The Department of English and American Studies offers a teacher education study programme of English language and literature in combination with another subject. This programme further develops the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a combination of linguistic disciplines and literary scholarship as well as in key aspects of the educational process and pedagogical-didactic strategies. Graduates are qualified to be teachers of their chosen specialization subjects.
Applicants are accepted without entrance exams.
ENGLISH STUDIES – DOCTORAL STUDY PROGRAMME
Doctoral study programme in the field 2.1.29 non-Slavic languages and literatures.
We advise the potential applicants to become acquainted with the research interests of doctoral theses supervisors at the department and arrange a consultation regarding their prospective research topics. Current information about doctoral studies are available at the Faculty webpage.
Applicants must hold a master’s level diploma. Doctoral studies are carried out in both daily and external form. Applicants are to pick a topic from the published offer, study relevant literary sources and independently prepare a thesis project to be presented at the admission interview.
SUPPLEMENTARY TEACHER TRAINING
The aim of the programme is to provide a full-fledged education enabling the teaching of English language and literature at primary and secondary schools. The contents of the programme are identical to the teacher study programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels. The prerequisites for admission are a completed university education in the field of pedagogy and knowledge of English language at B1 level at minimum.
