Tolkien Reading Day 2025: Faith and Hope

On the occasion of Tolkien Reading Day, the Department of English and American Studies organized the third annual series of themed events.

Under the leadership of Mgr. Martina Juričková, PhD., two events took place – an online colloquium and a public reading, which are part of the UGA III/5/2024 project “Moral Values in Fantasy Literature” and were dedicated to the moral message in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

The second event – a reading of Tolkien’s books themed “Faith and Hope”– took place on Friday, March 28, at the Panta Rhei bookstore in the Mlyny shopping center. Participants first listened to selected excerpts from Tolkien’s works such as The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings, which Dr. Juričková supplemented with insights from her own literary research. The event concluded with a Tolkien quiz. The first three winners were rewarded with a copy of KAA’s book We Love Poetry: Poetic Voices from Around the World and a small gift from the Panta Rhei bookstore.
