On the occasion of Tolkien Reading Day, the Department of English and American Studies organized the fourth annual series of events dedicated to Tolkien’s work.
One of them was a public reading from Tolkien’s works, held on 24 March 2026 in cooperation with the Panta Rhei bookstore, where the event took place. This year’s theme was “The Magical Middle-EARTH,” with emphasis on earth in the sense of nature. Volunteer students from the Department of English and American Studies read selected passages from The Lord of the Rings depicting the magical power of nature in Middle-earth in both positive and negative senses. The event concluded with a quiz on Tolkien’s world, in which participants could win a copy of Dr. Juričková’s Cardinal Vices in Middle-earth.
The event was organized as a part of the project VEGA 1/0236/26 – Axiological Updates and Reconfigurations in Contemporary Mythopoetic Narratives.
