Besides regular classes, students are encouraged to develop their own ideas, think critically, and try out academic or artistic work in practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The <strong>Student Scientific, Professional and Artistic Activity (\u0160VOU\u010c)<\/strong> is a yearly event where bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s students can present their own research projects or artistic work. For many students, \u0160VOU\u010c is their first experience with research, academic presentation, or public artistic performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">By participating in \u0160VOU\u010c, you can:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">work on your own research or creative project,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">gain experience with academic or artistic presentation,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">receive feedback from lecturers,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">get involved in research activities at your department,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">take an important step towards future academic or doctoral studies,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">and compete for <span style=\"color: #800000;\">prizes awarded to the top three presentations<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u0160VOU\u010c has <strong>two main stages<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>1. Preparation &amp; Submission<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You prepare your research paper or creative work <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>in English<\/strong><\/span> (including commentary or reflection, if required).<\/span>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You <strong>must consult your work with a supervisor before submission<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You <strong>submit<\/strong> your work by the set deadline <strong>in both electronic and printed form<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">After submitting your work, you also <strong>prepare a presentation <span style=\"color: #800000;\">in English<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Presentation preparation:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Your presentation must be <strong>no longer than 15 minutes<\/strong>.<\/span>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">If there are many presenters, the time limit may be shortened; you will be informed in advance so you can adjust your presentation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You are strongly encouraged to <strong>practice your presentation<\/strong> to stay within the time limit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>2. Conference (Live Event)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You <strong>present your work<\/strong> at a live student conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Your work is <strong>evaluated by an expert committee<\/strong> made up of lecturers, researchers, and sometimes students.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">After your presentation, there is a <strong>10-minute discussion<\/strong>, during which you:<\/span>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">respond to <strong>questions from your opponent and supervisor<\/strong> (based on the reviews),<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">answer <strong>additional questions<\/strong> from committee members and the audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">After all presentations, <strong>the committee evaluates the work and announces the results<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">In each section, <strong>three winning works are selected<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details class=\"faq-item\">\n<summary class=\"faq-btn\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?<\/span><\/summary>\n<div class=\"faq-content\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u0160VOU\u010c is open to:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">students of <strong>all years<\/strong>,<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">students from <strong>all study programmes<\/strong>,<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>individuals or student teams<\/strong>.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details class=\"faq-item\">\n<summary class=\"faq-btn\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">WHAT CAN YOU SUBMIT?<\/span><\/summary>\n<div class=\"faq-content\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You can take part in \u0160VOU\u010c in one of the following <strong>2 categories<\/strong>. RESEARCH PROJECTS:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">These may include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">a. Linguistics and Applied Linguistics<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>language structure and use<\/strong> (morphology, syntax, semantics, phonetics, and phonology; e.g. studying sentence patterns or negation in English, or analysing accents and speech fluency)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>language in society and media<\/strong> (pragmatics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis; e.g. analysing how English is used in social media, news reporting, or public discourse)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>data-driven or applied studies<\/strong> (corpus-based studies, contrastive analysis, applied linguistics projects; e.g. using a corpus to investigate common English idioms or developing a small language-learning tool)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">b. Pedagogy and Didactics<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>research-based lesson plans or teaching units with reflection<\/strong> (e.g. a lesson plan for teaching narrative tenses in English, including reflection on student responses and areas for improvement)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>classroom-based research<\/strong> (e.g. a small study on how using literary short stories affects student engagement and vocabulary retention in an EFL classroom)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">c. Literary and Cultural Studies<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>literary analysis<\/strong> (e.g. examining how the theme of the American Dream is presented through characters, symbols, and events in The Great Gatsby)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>cultural studies papers<\/strong> (e.g. analysing representations of race and identity in contemporary American television series such as Atlanta)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>adaptation studies<\/strong> (e.g. examining how Pride and Prejudice has been adapted into modern English-language films and TV series, focusing on changes in character portrayal, dialogue, and cultural context)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">2. CREATIVE &amp; ARTISTIC PROJECTS:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">These may include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>creative writing<\/strong> (short stories, poetry, flash fiction, experimental prose)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>film or video projects related to literary or cultural themes<\/strong> (short films, adaptations, video essays)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>digital or multimodal projects<\/strong> (literary podcasts, storytelling websites, interactive narratives)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>cultural or media projects<\/strong> (e.g. analyses presented through creative formats)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>teaching materials<\/strong> (worksheets, digital activities, assessment tools with theoretical justification)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>other creative formats<\/strong> related to English-language literature, culture, or media<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Creative works must be <strong>accompanied by an explanatory text or critical reflection<\/strong>. After a space, the <strong>author\u2019s surname and first name<\/strong> appear in italics, 12-point font.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The <strong>department<\/strong> is listed at the bottom of the page, followed by the <strong>supervisor\u2019s surname, first name, and academic titles<\/strong> in italics, 12-point font.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>ABSTRACT &amp; KEYWORDS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The next page contains the abstract and keywords for the work, <strong>written in Slovak<\/strong> even if the submission is in another language. The abstract is a short summary of the project (maximum 300 characters) that explains what it is about, what was studied, and what the main findings are. The keywords are 3 to 5 important words or phrases that best describe the topic and help readers find it more easily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>MAIN TEXT:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">After the abstract and keywords, the main text of the submission begins. It includes an <strong>introduction<\/strong>, the <strong>core\/body<\/strong> of the work, and a <strong>conclusion<\/strong>. The introduction presents the topic and its goals, the core develops the main ideas and arguments, and the conclusion summarises the findings and final thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">For <strong>creative and artistic projects<\/strong>, the main part of the work should first <strong>describe the project in detail<\/strong>. This includes <strong>explaining what the project is<\/strong> (for example, a video or podcast) and <strong>where it can be accessed by the public<\/strong>. After that, you should include a <strong>reflective and explanatory section<\/strong>. In this section, you talk about the <strong>main theme or ideas<\/strong> of your work, <strong>explain and justify the key creative choices<\/strong> you made (such as form, structure, characters, medium, or techniques), and <strong>show how your project connects to literary, cultural, media, or educational concepts<\/strong>. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The conclusion should briefly summarise <strong>what the project aimed to achieve<\/strong>, <strong>what you learned<\/strong> during the creative process, and <strong>any ideas for future development<\/strong>. Any materials that can be included in a Word document, such as creative writing or visual materials, should be added to the appendix.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>REFERENCES:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">After the main text, the References section follows. It <strong>lists all the sources <\/strong>used in the submission<strong>, <\/strong>including books, articles, videos, and other materials, in a standard format, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uk.ukf.sk\/data\/epca\/manualy\/2024\/Povolene_metody_690_2022.pdf\">following the university\u2019s citation norm<\/a>.
